My Bachelorette Party: The Last Flamingle

What a weekend to remember! Where do I even begin? This girls trip (AKA my bachelorette) is EXACTLY what I needed before the wedding! At first I was really stressed about having this the weekend before the wedding, but in the end it worked out perfectly. If you missed it, this was basically my only option as a weekend away if I wanted ALL my bridesmaids to be able to make it. We spent the weekend in the beautiful city of Palm Springs, CA and it was nothing short of amazing. In this blog post I am going to give you ALL the details! A link to the VBRO we stayed at, our itinerary, outfits, decor, and anything else you can think of. Now let’s hop right to it because I am SO excited to share with you all!

Let me start off by saying that the planning was super easy. My Maid & Matron of honor did a phenomenal job at making sure my needs and wants were met and heard, and they really went above and beyond. Not only that, but we were helped out along the way by Abbie from Got Your Bach. If you’ve never heard of this company before, get ready to have your mind blown. Got Your Bach is a boutique bachelorette planning service that helps the bride-to-be or the MOH plan the party of your dreams. If that doesn’t sound like heaven…I’m not sure what does! GYB customizes your trip and makes it fully personalized to each bridal squad. The easy process of filling out your questionnaire, a phone call to chat about all your visions, and then…sitting back and relaxing. Yes, you read that correctly. They do ALL the hard work for you— including cost-splitting and making a bill for each individual attending the bachelorette. I highly recommend using Got Your Bach for any upcoming bachelorettes you have, as it is a total game changer with the lessened stress and hard work. Head over to their Instagram to see all the inspiration and learn more!

After arriving at our house (see below for link!), we set up before the rest of the bride tribe arrived to make sure it was perfectly ready! My theme for the bachelorette bounced between two. Danielle’s Last Flamingle & It’s My Flocking Bachelorette. One was appropriate for the day, and the other one was appropriate after drinks settled in, lol! Overall though, the theme was tropical, lots of pink, flamingos, and Palm Springs related. I found out about this company called Shop Stag & Hen while I was searching one day for decor for the house. I instantly fell in love and realized they had EVERYTHING I wanted! If I could have, I would have bought the entire online store. I had to pull myself together though and just get a few things. The items were all what I was looking for and not to mention the overall shop! Even if you ARE NOT having your bachelorette in Palm Springs, they have something for each city. Once you browse through Shop Stag & Hen, you will find something (guaranteed) for your party and theme!

After all the girls arrived, we had to get ready for our first night out. I must say, I forgot how fun it is to get ready with a house full of girls—especially my favorite ones in the entire universe. Night one was nothing short of fun, much needed girl time that involved drag queens and alcohol- HA! When we got up the next morning for a day full of food, photos, and laying by the pool, we were all WIPED from the night before. Including me— I’m not a drinker, but I go to bed every night pretty early, like before 10 PM. So with how late we were out, I honestly felt like I got hit by a truck. Nevertheless, we all got ourselves fed and ready for a full day of sun. Saturday was the day I invited friends who weren't apart of the wedding party out, so our Palm Springs house was full of girls. We took photos, tanned, got massages, had girl talk, and ended the afternoon with a lingerie party before friends who were staying for the day, headed home.

Now, before I go onto to the rest of the trip, I have to address something that you just read. I just listed everything we did, and you might have noticed I wrote “got massages”. Well, I didn’t mention the best detail about this “getting massages” part. And that best part was: they came to the house. YUPP! Not only do bachelorette planning services exist, but traveling massage services do too. Not trying to brag or anything (ok, maybe I am.), but I think I won for bachelorette of the year. During our girls day by the pool, each bridesmaid or girlfriend got to head on into the house for their very own massage with Chy Massage. Chy Massage is a traveling massage service that comes to your location, serving the entire Coachella Valley. Not only do they do bachelorette parties, but they’ll do any occasion— from couples to corporate events. I’m not trying to persuade you to have your bachelorette in Palm Springs or anything, but this is a pretty good reason as to why you should! I’m still getting text messages from my friends saying how they LOVED this special touch that was apart of Saturday day. The massages were absolutely killer, and it was what everyone needed. From being tired from the night before, and for the drive that some girls did, it was like the cherry on top to a perfect day. If you live in this area or are debating whether or not to have your bachelorette out here, check out their Instagram to see more of the work they do or their website. I recommend them for their service— but also for the price. You can’t get anything better!

So now you get the point- we got massages while not having to go anywhere, basically went to heaven and back, and it was amazing. ;) Moving on now though to Saturday night and Sunday morning. Since we spent the day poolside and drinking, and the night before was still hanging over our heads a little, this night was pretty low key. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, did a little bar hopping, and then came back to the house for a girls night. The evening was one to remember from the food all the way to the silly games, really filling my heart and being the best end to a great weekend. Friday and Saturday came and went, and Sunday it was time to go home. We fueled up with a quick breakfast and headed home to prepare for yet the next weekend…OUR WEDDING!

I still cannot believe that this was my bachelorette. It blows me way! Even though the wedding is over, I wish I could re-live this weekend over and over. it’s not every day that you get to have all your favorite girlfriends in the same place, celebrating you. Like I said, I was initially really worried about having the bachelorette the weekend before the wedding. When my mind gets going, it basically starts running! But in the end, it ended up being perfect and we all got two weekends of FUN. Well, I at least know I did. ;) But, like I promised you all, LINKS! Everything that is not linked above you will find down below. Please let me know if I missed any links, or if you have any questions about anything that I mentioned. My emails, DM’s and comments are always open.

Our House

This place was the perfect place to have a bachelorette. It was close enough to everywhere went, and fit 9 girls overnight and even more during the day comfortably. Not to mention the price that we got it for was such a steal. I will be staying here again, especially since we go out here so often.

Bachelorette Planning Service

Got Your Bach Co. is an amazing company, like I said! If you struggle with ideas or really need help and guidance, hiring a company like this is a great idea. They can figure out almost everything for you which let’s be real, is a genius idea.

Dinner, Night One

So, I originally picked this place becuase of the menu. But let me be the one to warn you— don’t get too attached to it! The menu changes very frequently, so we went none of food I wanted to order was available, because the menu changed. Still delicious, but not the best choice if you are/have picky eaters.

Drag Queen Show

This was nothing short of entertaining. If you don’t want to be dragged up on stage, or have any of the attention on you, this is not the right place to go. We stayed here for a good 2 hours and had a GREAT time! Make sure you check the link above for the schedule of shows, because they aren’t every weekend.

Massage Company

One word: life changing. Even if you don’t have a bachelorette, they do parties or just no occasion, come to your house massages. I want to get one next time I go out just because they are so good!

Dinner, Night Two

We originally didn’t plan on eating here. We had reservations somewhere else but they didn’t end up having hours. I REALLY wanted Chips & Guacamole, so this restaurant had it and they also had room for our big party. However, it was listed as “Chips & Avocado Dip” on their menu. We were cracking up for hours, I will never forget it. I loved the food though!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019: Everything You Need to Know + A Sneak Peak

Screen Shot 2019-07-08 at 8.22.49 PM.png

I can’t believe it is already JULY! Ladies, we are already more than halfway through the year. Does that not blow your mind? July is a very special and fun month always because 1. It’s my birthday month (where the Cancer peeps at?!) and 2. the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I always luck out since it falls right next to my birthday, so I score some extra stuff from this sale for the upcoming seasons. Double win! Anyways, let’s jump into why you are here. The SALE! In this blog post I am going to be over the basics, what you need to know, tips and tricks, and also some sneak peaks at what you can score from this sale. Starting with the basics…

What is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

What is it, you ask? Just the greatest sale of the year. But really, it is! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a once a year event that occurs in mid July-August. You can get some amazing deals (that you will not see again) on end of summer items and a TON of Fall and Winter basics, that has not yet hit the stores. That’s one of the things that is so great about this sale, is that nothing included in this sale is available until the sale starts. So you get to see all new inventory and you get it on sale. I use this sale to stock up on Fall & Winter items since after this sale is over, you never see it on sale again (or if you do, it’s not on sale for as good these anniversary sale prices). Items included in this sale are pretty much from every department—beauty, women’s wear, shoes, active gear & more.

When is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

Icon Pre-Shop In Stores: July 9th

Icon & Ambassador Pre-Shop In Stores: July 10th & July 11th

Early Access for Cardholders Begins: July 12th-18th

Sale Opens to the Public: July 19th-August 4th

***Prices will go back to full price on August 5th.

The icon and ambassadors are card holders that are certain card holder levels.

How can I get early access?

You can become a Nordstrom Cardholder.

Why should I apply for Nordstrom card?

A couple reasons! This is my first year shopping the sale as a personal Nordstrom cardholder. The past few years I have just gone with people who had them, but the deal was hard to pass up this year.

Sign up for a Nordstrom Credit Card now through July 10th and receive a $60 Nordstrom Note (gift card). When shopping, you will receive 3 points per $1 while shopping at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Trunk Club, and HauteLook. The more points you earn, the faster you will receive notes. And Nordstrom Notes are literally gift cards too Nordstrom. There is NO annual fee and they offer 24/7 customer service.

What else do I need to know? Tips + Tricks

A few things, actually!

  1. If you want something, GET IT! Items go fast, and they usually do not restock, until after the sale is over. It is 100% better to buy it and return it later than not buy it and it be too late.

  2. Just apply for the credit card if you are on the fence about it. You get early access, a $60 gift card (note) and you get the perks of being a card holder. Another reason to get the card is like I said, items usually don’t restock. So that mean when the sale opens to the public, a lot of stuff is gone and people are usually really irritated by this. If anything, just get the card to shop the sale! I grabbed the Nordstrom Retail card in case you were wondering.

  3. I will be doing a try-on haul of the Nordstrom Sale items as soon as the sale opens to cardholders (July 12th!), so make sure you follow closely on stories (@daniellealanareyes) to see what items will be best sellers and for what to get! I love being your guys “go-to” when it comes to sales, so I truly appreciate your trust in me when it comes to finding the best pieces.

  4. Save yourself and just shop online. Nordstrom is an absolutely MAD HOUSE the day the sale starts and it doesn’t die down until the day it ends, serious. If you are worried about sizing or fit, please keep in mind Nordstrom’ s return policy. It is the best of the best, and it is better to over buy during this sale then not buy at all.

  5. Keep others in mind, too! Not just women’s fashion is on sale during this anniversary sale. Literally EVERYTHING is! From shoes, to fitness gear, activewear, kids, baby, beauty, men’s, you name it— they have it on sale. Some people like to buy Christmas gifts during this time and it is great since you get the sale prices. Not to mention other peeps in the family need stuff too! ;)

Our Honeymoon

And just like that, all things “wedding” related is OVER! We had the best day of our life on June 8th, and I wish I could relive that day all over again. We were surrounded by family and friends, and the day went absolutely perfectly. When our wedding photos come back, I plan on doing a blog specifically on our wedding including all the vendors, details and of course photos. For now, I’m talking about our HONEYMOON! In case you haven’t been following along on Instagram (follow here) we went to Fiji and stayed at the Fiji Marriot Resort Momi Bay. We went for the week and had an absolute blast! This blog post will be covering my Fiji outfit guide, questions regarding the resort/honeymoon, and everything else you need to know. Let’s get started!

I knew from the beginning, and by beginning I mean when I started planning by wedding at age 10, that I wanted to honeymoon in an over water bungalow. It was a must—without a question, without a doubt, that it is what I was going to do no matter what. When the topic of honeymoon destinations came up, I told Tim about my life long dream and he easily agreed. I mean…would you need persuading to stay in an over water bungalow in a dreamy destination? Probably not! We started looking and weren’t sure where we wanted to go, since several locations have these types of places. Tim’s mom ended up sending us a link to Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay and I fell in love within seconds. Without even browsing through photos or doing any research, just by looking at the main page, I told Tim “this is it!”. Our honeymoon was booked that day and we were all set.

If you did see all my photos and stories while we were, I’m sure you know how beautiful it is! But just in case you didn’t see or you forgot, don’t worry, I got you covered. ;) Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is located in Nadi, Fiji about 45 minutes away from the main airport. This resort sits right along the water, giving you views of the South Pacific Ocean and a private beach that flows into the resort giving you the over water bungalows and a few private beach areas. The property itself is huge, and of course absolutely stunning. This hotel just opened in 2017 after 10 years of construction, and is one of the top resorts in Fiji. Known for a great honeymoon location, but also very much a family resort. Serving mostly Australian families, this is like their Hawaii since it is only a 5 hour flight. They have an adorable and entertaining kids pool—so much that I told Tim it is my goal to come back and bring our future babies! Overall, this hotel checks off everything you will ever need for your honeymoon (or family vacay!) and we are SO happy with how our experience was. A lot of you DM’d me with questions about our honeymoon and the hotel while we were there, so I wanted to make sure I answered all of them. Here they are— I hope this helps! If you have more or questions in the future, don’t be afraid to comment or message me. I’d be more than happy to answer!

What is the weather like?

The answer to this question really does change depending on what time of the year you are going. While we were in Fiji during late June (June 16-23), the weather was perfect. It was in the high 80s, but there was also a bit of humidity. The humidity was barely any so it was totally doable, and the sunshine made for beautiful skies and perfect pool days. Before you leave, I would do research and simply google, “what is the weather like in Fiji during ___”. You most likely get an on point answer that way, since I can only answer what the weather was like during June. But do note—the seasons in Fiji are opposite.

Is Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay all inclusive? How was the food situation?

No, it is not. I got this question quite a few times actually! I think I got this question a lot because if you saw my stories, Tim and I did not leave the resort at all. We stayed at Momi Bay the whole time and ate a bunch of different places, so I think that made it look like/gave the idea that it was an all inclusive. With that being said, Fiji Momi Bay Resort has 3 restaurants that you can eat at. Lagoon House & Bar, Fish Bar, and Gogi Kitchen & Bar. Those are the only places they have as far as restaurants go, and that’s where we ate the entire time! We started each day with a buffet breakfast at Goji Kitchen that was delicious. Their french toast is the best I’ve ever had! The Fish Bar has a swim up bar that connects to one of their pools, so you could find me ordering mudslides almost everyday there ha! We also grabbed lunch inside and were able to order and eat on our lounge chairs. Highly recommend getting the french fries & onion rings— the dipping sauce made them spectacular! For dinner we switched off between the three restaurants, but mostly ate at Lagoon House and Fish Bar. Goji had jaw dropping views but it was kind of trek from our room, and it was only plated. We had dinner their on our fancy night (not the restaurant, just the night Tim and I dressed up) and it was nothing short of dreamy. Over looking the infinity pool and watching the sun set…something I will always remember! Overall, the food was pretty delicious, and please keep in mind I am a picky eater. I did eat a lot of snacks like french fries and onions, and side dishes, as a lot of the entrees weren’t my jam. I’d say dinner was maybe the “hardest” for me in the sense but that’s because I’m picky, like I said. On the resort as well they had WHSmith which was a store where you could grab things like snacks and water bottles. It was basically a one stop shop for anything you could need from medicine to pool toys. We didn't find the need to leave the resort to get anything!

Did you feel safe the entire time?

Absolutely yes. If anything, I am overly cautious because I have heard so many horror stories. You know, the ones where couples go missing on their honeymoon? Those ones. So, whenever we travel (within the US or outside) I am overly cautious and sometimes paranoid. Before we go to our resort, we did stay at an airport apartment hotel because we landed at 5 AM and our room definitely wasn’t ready yet. Not to mention the 12 hour plane ride that we didn't get much sleep on! During our couple hours here, I did feel a little iffy. We were on our own, and walked to lunch into town, and I did feel paranoid. BUT, looking back now it definitely wasn’t the town or the people that made me feel that way. It was the fact that I was trusting Tim to navigate us through a place we’ve never been before which makes me instantly anxious. Lol, if you couldn’t tell by that, he’s gotten us lost in places we’ve never been before which makes me scared. Little bit of a rough patch for us ;)

Were any excisions offered? Did you leave the hotel?

A ton of excursions were offered at the tour desk, but we did not do any of them and we did not leave the hotel. A little back story as to why. When we booked this trip, we did not realize what big of a time difference it was. From California, Fiji is 19 hours ahead which makes Fiji a day ahead. When our trip was booked, we thought we had 7 days and 6 nights. It wasn’t until it got close that we realized we have 6 days and 5 nights, due to the time difference. If you are thinking about booking a trip here, PLEASE look into the time before you book, because if we did we would’ve stayed much longer. Anyways, with that back story, since we didn’t have as much time on the resort as we thought so we decided to not do any. The hotel is jaw drop gorgeous you guys, and I do not regret not doing any excursions whatsoever! We were able to really take it all in, experience everything it had to offer, try the different restaurants and go to the different pools, and also do activities the hotel offered. When we left on Sunday after arriving early Tuesday AM, I felt like we had finally experienced everything there. Had we stayed longer, that is when I would have felt comfortable to book excursions/activities outside of the resort because that is the point that I felt like we really did everything. I can’t offer any advice on the ones that they offer since we didn’t do any, but I can say if you are only staying for the same length of time we are, I wouldn’t bother booking any. You will find plenty to do and enjoy right where you are.

What was the budget for your trip? How much did it cost?

This is always the popular question. We got this question about our wedding, and I think it is because people are truly curious and want to know how realistic these things are. Let me start off by saying everyone is different. Everyone’s budget is different, and everyones weddings are different. Some people fully pay for their own weddings by themselves, and completely fund their honeymoons. Then there are some whose families pitch in for honeymoons and host weddings, and we were fortunate enough to be these people. In 2019, it is pretty rare nowadays (or so I feel) for parents to pay for their childrens weddings and honeymoons, so Tim and I are truly blessed and insanely lucky— and trust me when I say we don’t take that for granted. Our honeymoon and our wedding was a dream true thanks to both of our parents, and I will never forget that!

Onto the “is it affordable” part of the question. This truly depends on what you are planning on doing, and what type of room you are staying in. Are you staying in the over water bungalow the whole time? Are you getting a bungalow on the beach? Ocean view or lagoon view? How about the regular hotel room? These are all questions that you need to answer, based on your budget. I do think this resort though is great for people on a budget, because there are options for each budget. All the above rooms I mentioned are different price points, and this also goes with how long you are planning on staying, and if you are going during on season or off season. We met a couple who was staying for two weeks, but they got a regular room and only the most expensive one (overwater bungalow) for 2 nights. This is also an option if you want to experience both!

Even though I’m not going to shout from the rooftops how much our honeymoon costs, I will say this: we booked through a third party and got a huge discount. It’s called Cheap Tickets. I had never booked with them before, but it got us our room (the most expensive one!), flights, a driver to and from the airport when we were arriving and leaving, for a NICE deal. If we would’ve booked through the resorts website, our stay at the resort would’ve cost what we paid for for everything, and probably more. My advice is to definitely book through a third party. This made our honeymoon a little over $5,000, instead of paying $10,000 booking each thing separately.

You mentioned on stories that a lot of families were staying at the resort. Did you feel the kids around the hotel ruined your honeymoon or was it not really noticeable?

I’m a hard person to ask because I’m a nanny. I work with kids, babies and toddlers more specifically, for a living. So, unless the child is a flat out you know what, then I’m not bothered by them. If I was someone who didn’t like children, I probably most definitely would’ve been annoyed by the amount of families that were staying. It wasn’t like kids were screaming constantly, or the whole place was out of control, but… I definitely got splashed at the swim up bar every now and then, and multiple strollers and high chairs were everywhere we ate. Me though? I just got (even bigger) baby fever from all of this. So yes, it was noticeable, but not annoying, and I’m a kid person. I’d say the majority ranged from babies to tiny toddlers which were all so adorable and not whiny or cry babies. The “big kids” were present, but under control acting like normal kids.

I got a lot of repeat questions, so in total these are all the questions I received. If I didn’t get to your question, or you’re reading this in the future, do not hesitate to shoot me an email or message me, I’d be more than happy to help.

That about wraps up Fiji! I’m still blown away that its over and now we are married. It is my new life goal to go back to Fiji and next time, bring our babies with us. I mean, did you see the kids pool?! If you are thinking about honeymooning to Fiji, if you couldn’t tell, I HIGHLY recommend it. After going for a week, I am so pleased with our experience at Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. As much as I love to explore, the resort had everything I needed and more that I don’t need to go anywhere else! The entire week was a dream come true, from staying at the most beautiful place, to getting an uninterrupted week in paradise with my new husband. I hope this blog post helps give you insight on the hotel and maybe some inspiration for your future honeymoon! Do not hesitate to reach out if I missed anything.

Meet chip

We are officially DOG PARENTS! Meet Chip Schlueter, who we rescued from OC Animal Care on June 15th, 2019. It has been just a little crazy over here adjusting to new married life, getting home from our honeymoon, and jumping straight into parenthood with this little guy. I know you guys probably have a ton of questions, so I’m taking you through the beginning of this process! How the topic of dogs came up, how we found Chip, getting him while we were on our honeymoon, and how it’s been since he’s been home with us. Grab some popcorn (or wine) and let’s start from the beginning.

Wednesday, June 12th

Tim casually brings up getting a dog. This isn’t out of the ordinary, because we’ve been talking about getting a dog for awhile. I wanted to get one right after we got engaged, but Tim shot it down pretty quick. He said we needed to be married first which was fair since we didn’t live together, so I dropped the whole thing and stayed busy with wedding planning. We’ve literally been married for 4 days at this point, and Tim tells me he’s browsing our local animal shelters website. I jumped in on the idea because I of course wanted one! But I didn’t think of it too realistically because we were leaving for Fiji on Saturday, so it just wasn’t possible. Tim continues to browse and finds an app called Pet Finder and searches on there too. In the meantime, I’m getting ready for Fiji.

Thursday, June 13th

Tim finds puppies. Oh boy. These particular puppies were a group of 3, that were dropped off at the animal shelter Thursday day. Tim tells me he’s going to look at them on his lunch break tomorrow (Friday) and drive over to look around. I immediately got anxious with a million thoughts going through my head! My initial ones were 1. You are not getting a puppy without me 2. We’re leaving for Fiji in 2 days and 3. …AH! I go to bed thinking he might not go after all.

Friday, June 14th

Its Tim’s lunch break. He’s heading over. Crap. When Tim went, there was the 3 puppies he saw who had a pretty big crowd around them. We learned when puppies go into the shelter, they are gone pretty quickly. I thought the puppies were adorable, but I wasn’t set on them by any means. I met Tim and since we were there, we walked around and looked at the other doggies…just because I guess. Within the first couple cages I stroll down I happened to find these 2 pups— and I was shocked that no one was paying attention to them!

This brother and sister duo was dropped off on Thursday. I was pretty much immediately fell in love and decided in that second that I wanted them both. Tim and I’s goal is to have 2 dogs, and this worked perfectly in my head. 2 puppies that are both adorable, they’re brother and sister, boy and girl… it’s meant to be! I wanted to put a deposit down on both that day, which means you get them if the owner doesn’t come. Since we didn’t come for those puppies, and we were leaving on our honeymoon in 2 days, we decided to sleep on it and see if we could figure it out and if we still wanted them the next morning.

Saturday, June 15th

The dog shelter opens at 11 and we (thought) showed up right on time, which is when it opens. We were going to see if they were still available and how we could hold them until we got back from Fiji. When we walked in to go say hi to them, there was a crowd. I instantly got anxious and didn’t even want to say hi to them- I just wanted to go straight to the office and put a deposit down. I had a freak out, told Tim we needed to beat all of the other people, and basically sprinted back to the front office.

Once we got to the front desk, they informed us that the female was already taken—someone had put a deposit down. The only way we could get her is if on her pick-up day, the deposit people didn’t show up. So, how it works is you put a deposit down, and the owners have a few days to come get the dog if it is found. If no one picks it up, they go through the process of neutering the dog if it isn’t already, shots, and everything else. Then, you have one day to come get the dog you put a deposit on. If you don’t come that day, the dog then becomes available again and you don’t get your deposit back.

After the worker told us that, I told Tim we needed to go find the people that put the deposit down and talk them out of it. I’m not kidding. I wanted to find them and tell them that these pups couldn’t be separated, and that we were willing to take both and keep them together. I mean come on— look at that picture! They LOVED each other and were the sweetest things. It puts me to tears writing this right now because it breaks my heart that they couldn’t be kept together. But, everything happens for a reason so I know deep down it just wasn’t meant to be. But…I’m still sad.

After we figured out the female was taken (which we now know was named Luna), we wanted to get the male. But if you read up a little in this post, you have to get the dog the day it’s available or you’ll lose it. The day he was going to be available we were for sure going to be on our honeymoon, and they do absolutely no holds. I was upset because I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, but we knew we had one possibility. We could ask Tim’s parents to pick him up for us while we were on our honeymoon, just for 2 days since they said he was supposedly going to be ready on Friday, June 22nd. We called and were shocked, thrilled, and anxious to hear that they agreed because…that meant we were getting a puppy!

Tuesday, June 18th

Uh-oh. Not Friday! The shelter called Tim’s mom and informed her that he would be ready for pick-up tomorrow. It happened SO fast, and we were not expecting him to be able to come home that early. Neither were Tim’s parents! We instantly felt guilty because one, they had to have him longer than we expected. And two, he was going to be very confused when we went to pick him up and take him yet to another home, because we weren’t coming home until Sunday.

Wednesday, June 19th

Chip is ready for pick-up! We’re not sure why he was ready way sooner than we expected, but in the end we were ok with it. We figured since both him and his sister had a deposit, the shelter probably just wanted to get him home to us. He stayed with Tim’s parents from Wednesday to Sunday until we got home, and then it was time for him to meet us.

Sunday, June 23rd

Straight from the airport to get our fur baby. He was such a sweetheart, but we could also tell he was comfortable at Tim’s parents house. He was confused when we took him, but got settled in as soon as we got home. By settled in, I mean immediately peeing and marking everything he could!

What a secret to keep. I’m honestly pretty proud of myself that I haven’t let it slip before today, because I can’t tell you how many times I almost did let it slip. As you can tell, we have been non-stop busy over here and have had a LOT going on! We truly jumped right into doggy parenthood, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. When Tim and I do something, we do it with our whole hearts. We both love hard and that’s what I love so much about us as a couple. Some people (let’s be real, a lot of people) think we move to quickly. We got engaged too fast, the engagement wasn’t long enough, the wedding was planned quickly, we should’ve waited longer to get a dog…but here’s the truth. Tim and I know what we want, and we have for awhile. So our motto is, if you know what you want…why wait? And now here we are— less than a month into marriage, already as a family of three. We couldn’t be happier and we truly couldn’t have picked a better dog. Chip already has both of us wrapped around his finger and we are in love! I figured you guys would have questions, so below I’m answering the ones I’m anticipating on getting the most. If you have more, go to Instagram stories for a Q + A!

Why did you name him Chip?

Tim and I both growing up had dogs, and both of our families did themes for animal names. Tim’s dogs were named after mountains and my dogs were named Hispanic names. We decided to go with food for our dogs because there’s just so many options! We chose Chip on the spot, actually. But we went with it because whenever we do get a second dog, there’s a lot of things that go with Chips that are food duos. Chocolate & Chip, Nacho & Chip— these are just ideas, but you get the point.

What kind of dog is Chip?

Honestly, we have no clue. The animal shelter labeled him as a German Shepard, but the vet definitely think he’s a mix. The first place winner for right now that we see him growing into (we won’t for sure know until he’s older), is a Sheprador. German Shepard + Labrador mix.

What is Chip’s story?

Literally the only information we got was that Chip and his sister were dropped off at that shelter, and that was it. Everyone seemed to be really unsure and kind of skeptical, so who knows.

How old is Chip?

Chip is approximately 14 weeks old. His birthday we’re saying is March 14th, but that’s our guess since we have no background on him.

How big will he get?

Regardless of his breed, we know without a doubt he’s going to be a big dog. He’s 14 weeks old and he is already almost 40 pounds. Kinda scary! Im guessing he’s easily going to be over 100 pounds and a big boy. We’re hoping by the time he’s fully grown, which will be when our lease is up, we’ll out and in a place with a yard for him. If anything it just puts the pressure on and now motivates us even more!

Life as a Family of Three

It has officially been one week with Chip today that we’ve had him home with us. During that time, we’ve learned quite a few things about each other! Potty training is pretty easy, as long as you take him out every 30 minutes. If you don’t, there goes that. He also LOVES to sleep! The first night we had him we were worried we were going to be up all night, but nope. Chip sleeps through the night and doesn’t go to the bathroom which is huge. He holds it all night and waits until Tim takes him out in the morning! We also learned that he hates being left alone. Like hates it. He whines, barks, howls, and destroys the apartment every time we leave! It’s definitely added a good 30 minutes to leaving now because of the whole process we have to do. The vet instructed us to keep leaving him alone more often, as he needs to get used to it. We leave the radio on, toys, treats, but it doesn’t matter. He just wants us. Chip is a typical puppy but his personality is definitely starting to show and we’re excited to see him grow more.

The secret and all the info is out and I can finally breathe, ha! We’re both so excited to be sharing Chip on here now and obviously have him as apart of our lives. You’ll be seeing this guy A LOT as he is now the official third member of our family! Thank you so much for reading and I can’t wait to start sharing dog stuff now.
