Meet chip

We are officially DOG PARENTS! Meet Chip Schlueter, who we rescued from OC Animal Care on June 15th, 2019. It has been just a little crazy over here adjusting to new married life, getting home from our honeymoon, and jumping straight into parenthood with this little guy. I know you guys probably have a ton of questions, so I’m taking you through the beginning of this process! How the topic of dogs came up, how we found Chip, getting him while we were on our honeymoon, and how it’s been since he’s been home with us. Grab some popcorn (or wine) and let’s start from the beginning.

Wednesday, June 12th

Tim casually brings up getting a dog. This isn’t out of the ordinary, because we’ve been talking about getting a dog for awhile. I wanted to get one right after we got engaged, but Tim shot it down pretty quick. He said we needed to be married first which was fair since we didn’t live together, so I dropped the whole thing and stayed busy with wedding planning. We’ve literally been married for 4 days at this point, and Tim tells me he’s browsing our local animal shelters website. I jumped in on the idea because I of course wanted one! But I didn’t think of it too realistically because we were leaving for Fiji on Saturday, so it just wasn’t possible. Tim continues to browse and finds an app called Pet Finder and searches on there too. In the meantime, I’m getting ready for Fiji.

Thursday, June 13th

Tim finds puppies. Oh boy. These particular puppies were a group of 3, that were dropped off at the animal shelter Thursday day. Tim tells me he’s going to look at them on his lunch break tomorrow (Friday) and drive over to look around. I immediately got anxious with a million thoughts going through my head! My initial ones were 1. You are not getting a puppy without me 2. We’re leaving for Fiji in 2 days and 3. …AH! I go to bed thinking he might not go after all.

Friday, June 14th

Its Tim’s lunch break. He’s heading over. Crap. When Tim went, there was the 3 puppies he saw who had a pretty big crowd around them. We learned when puppies go into the shelter, they are gone pretty quickly. I thought the puppies were adorable, but I wasn’t set on them by any means. I met Tim and since we were there, we walked around and looked at the other doggies…just because I guess. Within the first couple cages I stroll down I happened to find these 2 pups— and I was shocked that no one was paying attention to them!

public.jpeg

This brother and sister duo was dropped off on Thursday. I was pretty much immediately fell in love and decided in that second that I wanted them both. Tim and I’s goal is to have 2 dogs, and this worked perfectly in my head. 2 puppies that are both adorable, they’re brother and sister, boy and girl… it’s meant to be! I wanted to put a deposit down on both that day, which means you get them if the owner doesn’t come. Since we didn’t come for those puppies, and we were leaving on our honeymoon in 2 days, we decided to sleep on it and see if we could figure it out and if we still wanted them the next morning.

Saturday, June 15th

The dog shelter opens at 11 and we (thought) showed up right on time, which is when it opens. We were going to see if they were still available and how we could hold them until we got back from Fiji. When we walked in to go say hi to them, there was a crowd. I instantly got anxious and didn’t even want to say hi to them- I just wanted to go straight to the office and put a deposit down. I had a freak out, told Tim we needed to beat all of the other people, and basically sprinted back to the front office.

Once we got to the front desk, they informed us that the female was already taken—someone had put a deposit down. The only way we could get her is if on her pick-up day, the deposit people didn’t show up. So, how it works is you put a deposit down, and the owners have a few days to come get the dog if it is found. If no one picks it up, they go through the process of neutering the dog if it isn’t already, shots, and everything else. Then, you have one day to come get the dog you put a deposit on. If you don’t come that day, the dog then becomes available again and you don’t get your deposit back.

After the worker told us that, I told Tim we needed to go find the people that put the deposit down and talk them out of it. I’m not kidding. I wanted to find them and tell them that these pups couldn’t be separated, and that we were willing to take both and keep them together. I mean come on— look at that picture! They LOVED each other and were the sweetest things. It puts me to tears writing this right now because it breaks my heart that they couldn’t be kept together. But, everything happens for a reason so I know deep down it just wasn’t meant to be. But…I’m still sad.

After we figured out the female was taken (which we now know was named Luna), we wanted to get the male. But if you read up a little in this post, you have to get the dog the day it’s available or you’ll lose it. The day he was going to be available we were for sure going to be on our honeymoon, and they do absolutely no holds. I was upset because I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, but we knew we had one possibility. We could ask Tim’s parents to pick him up for us while we were on our honeymoon, just for 2 days since they said he was supposedly going to be ready on Friday, June 22nd. We called and were shocked, thrilled, and anxious to hear that they agreed because…that meant we were getting a puppy!

Tuesday, June 18th

Uh-oh. Not Friday! The shelter called Tim’s mom and informed her that he would be ready for pick-up tomorrow. It happened SO fast, and we were not expecting him to be able to come home that early. Neither were Tim’s parents! We instantly felt guilty because one, they had to have him longer than we expected. And two, he was going to be very confused when we went to pick him up and take him yet to another home, because we weren’t coming home until Sunday.

Chip is ready for pick-up! We’re not sure why he was ready way sooner than we expected, but in the end we were ok with it. We figured since both him and his sister had a deposit, the shelter probably just wanted to get him home to us. He stayed with Tim’s parents from Wednesday to Sunday until we got home, and then it was time for him to meet us.

Sunday, June 23rd

Straight from the airport to get our fur baby. He was such a sweetheart, but we could also tell he was comfortable at Tim’s parents house. He was confused when we took him, but got settled in as soon as we got home. By settled in, I mean immediately peeing and marking everything he could!

WOW!

What a secret to keep. I’m honestly pretty proud of myself that I haven’t let it slip before today, because I can’t tell you how many times I almost did let it slip. As you can tell, we have been non-stop busy over here and have had a LOT going on! We truly jumped right into doggy parenthood, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. When Tim and I do something, we do it with our whole hearts. We both love hard and that’s what I love so much about us as a couple. Some people (let’s be real, a lot of people) think we move to quickly. We got engaged too fast, the engagement wasn’t long enough, the wedding was planned quickly, we should’ve waited longer to get a dog…but here’s the truth. Tim and I know what we want, and we have for awhile. So our motto is, if you know what you want…why wait? And now here we are— less than a month into marriage, already as a family of three. We couldn’t be happier and we truly couldn’t have picked a better dog. Chip already has both of us wrapped around his finger and we are in love! I figured you guys would have questions, so below I’m answering the ones I’m anticipating on getting the most. If you have more, go to Instagram stories for a Q + A!

Why did you name him Chip?

Tim and I both growing up had dogs, and both of our families did themes for animal names. Tim’s dogs were named after mountains and my dogs were named Hispanic names. We decided to go with food for our dogs because there’s just so many options! We chose Chip on the spot, actually. But we went with it because whenever we do get a second dog, there’s a lot of things that go with Chips that are food duos. Chocolate & Chip, Nacho & Chip— these are just ideas, but you get the point.

What kind of dog is Chip?

Honestly, we have no clue. The animal shelter labeled him as a German Shepard, but the vet definitely think he’s a mix. The first place winner for right now that we see him growing into (we won’t for sure know until he’s older), is a Sheprador. German Shepard + Labrador mix.

What is Chip’s story?

Literally the only information we got was that Chip and his sister were dropped off at that shelter, and that was it. Everyone seemed to be really unsure and kind of skeptical, so who knows.

How old is Chip?

Chip is approximately 14 weeks old. His birthday we’re saying is March 14th, but that’s our guess since we have no background on him.

How big will he get?

Regardless of his breed, we know without a doubt he’s going to be a big dog. He’s 14 weeks old and he is already almost 40 pounds. Kinda scary! Im guessing he’s easily going to be over 100 pounds and a big boy. We’re hoping by the time he’s fully grown, which will be when our lease is up, we’ll out and in a place with a yard for him. If anything it just puts the pressure on and now motivates us even more!

Life as a Family of Three

It has officially been one week with Chip today that we’ve had him home with us. During that time, we’ve learned quite a few things about each other! Potty training is pretty easy, as long as you take him out every 30 minutes. If you don’t, there goes that. He also LOVES to sleep! The first night we had him we were worried we were going to be up all night, but nope. Chip sleeps through the night and doesn’t go to the bathroom which is huge. He holds it all night and waits until Tim takes him out in the morning! We also learned that he hates being left alone. Like hates it. He whines, barks, howls, and destroys the apartment every time we leave! It’s definitely added a good 30 minutes to leaving now because of the whole process we have to do. The vet instructed us to keep leaving him alone more often, as he needs to get used to it. We leave the radio on, toys, treats, but it doesn’t matter. He just wants us. Chip is a typical puppy but his personality is definitely starting to show and we’re excited to see him grow more.

The secret and all the info is out and I can finally breathe, ha! We’re both so excited to be sharing Chip on here now and obviously have him as apart of our lives. You’ll be seeing this guy A LOT as he is now the official third member of our family! Thank you so much for reading and I can’t wait to start sharing dog stuff now.

Date Night at The Fifth

Tuesday night date night, whoop whoop! One of my favorite things to do with Tim is to go on mid-week date nights. I feel like it helps break up the week for me and also gives time to relax and not be so stressed! I’m the type that is already thinking about the next day by the time I get up. So when I go home after running around toddlers all day, #nannylife I feel like an adult- ha!

One of my favorite date nights thus far with Tim has been at The Fifth. We were both born and raised in Orange County, CA so we are very familiar (and lucky!) with the Disney area located in Anaheim. Since Tim and I have been together, we pretty much got Disneyland passes immediately and started going pretty frequently. Though park food is delicious, we both really prefer to go to sit down restaurants so we’re able to sit and talk about our days. Since hearing about The Fifth earlier this year, this restaurant has become THE spot in Anaheim for us to go! I’m going to walk you through The Fifth visually and show you some of my favorite menu items, along with why we love this place!

Warm welcome from The Fifth! IMO, it makes the world of a difference when staff hand selects their hosts and hostesses, and I can always tell when they do. Every time I come here they greet me a warm welcome (picture for proof ;)) and it makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

See what I mean by a view? Not only do you get to see Disneyland but you get to see the whole city, and for dinner the sunset! Another thing I love to do once in awhile is stay super late (my version of super late, lol!) and watch the fireworks. The atmosphere of this restaurant definitely gets more busy as the night goes on because its everyones favorite place to grab a drink, hang by the fire, or watch the entertainment that they do! Also, did you get a peak at that menu? Here is a list of our favorites!

Appetizers

Loaded Tatter Tots

Corn Dogs

Chicken Tenders

Mozzarella Sticks

Pretzels and Sausages

Nachos

Entrees:

Shrimp Scampi

Crafted Burger

***if we’re being honest, I always pretty much just order appetizers. Hence why more of those are listed, I ALWAYS get those!

And let me get started on dessert. One word: DONUTS. They are the way to my heart and The Fifth has them! I’m a plain gal so I got donut holes, but Tim orders them filled with chocolate and he loved them. We headed to Disney after, but we had a chance to sit by the fire for a little and enjoy the view and snap a quick photo in front of the photo wall!

If you’re in Orange County, come and grab dinner here while you have a free night! You seriously won’t regret it. What you get at this restaurant for the price is UNREAL. Make sure you tag me in your posts if you stop by, and thanks for letting me brag about one of our favorite date night spots!

Thank You to The Fifth for sponsoring today’s post.

Getting Organized

It’s always a good day when you get to start off decorating your planner, isn’t it? Earlier last week over on stories I showcased my new buys from Erin Condren that I was SO pumped about! This brand has had my heart for the past 3 years and nothing gets me more motivated then having cute things to help me get organized. Earlier this year I did a blog post on why I love Erin Condren and what I use to plan. This post I’m going to be going into depth on how I decorate my planner, and what keeps me on track for staying organized. If it has something to do with stickers or decorating, or anyway that you can make any adulting thing fun, I’m all in!

Just back tracking a little, here is what came in my order!

Now to break it down.

ADDRESS BOOK- This is a new addition to the family and I’m looking forward to utilizing this in my future! I don’t know about you, but excel is my worst enemy. I hate technology (lol) and whenever I can I prefer to write things down rather than type them. This is my main reason as to why I’m so into planning and being organized! When it comes to things like making a guest list and keeping things in order like addresses (which will be happening here soon!) I loose everything while I’m typing it in a spreadsheet and I always mess something up. After the wedding, even Christmas card lists. I ordered this so I can keep track of all of our friends and families addresses as time goes on and also things such as birthdays and anniversaries. I love knowing when friends birthdays are so I can send them a card in the mail or just wish them a happy anniversary and surprise them! I’m planning on keeping this for the long run and writing everything down in pencil so it can change as time goes on.

STATIONARY- I’ve been on the hunt for stationary that I can personalize for AWHILE now, and I have no clue why I didn’t think of EC. I think I’m just so planner based here that it didn’t even cross my mind to check there. As I was making this order, I was browsing around and came across these that were plain and I could personalize which was EXACTLY what I wanted. I’m hoping to use these as letters to you guys, when I do giveaways or just send you guys little things in the mail. Also for every day things like birthday cards, thank you letters, and working with brands. Now I finally have them, YAY!

INTERCHANGABLE COVERS- I forgot to mention these guys on stories. Something I love so much about the life planner and address book is how the covers you can switch out. I just stuck with one cover for my address book, but as time goes on since I look at my planner so much, I like to change out the front and back to switch things up. I have a pile of these in my drawer always ready to go whenever I want!

ELASTIC BANDS- These are a new addition that I’m excited about! I use my planner everyday, always referring back to it for my schedule and what I need to get done that day. Since I’m constantly opening and closing it, I ordered these to help me get to what page I want faster. I slide them on the page I want for the week and am able to use these as a bookmark if you will, and change them out! I ordered the glittery ones of course ;)

LIFEPLANNER- The God of planning, is also the name I have for it other than life planner ;) I’ve been using this for a total of 3 years now and I don’t think I’m ever going to switch. It has all my needs and then some! First off, its just fricken cute. You can’t deny it. Motivational quotes are placed in the beginning of each month and theres always a page for notes. It comes with colorful outlines, and then in the back of a planner a few pages of stickers are also included. Along with a pouch to hold things if needed, and a perpetual calendar. Need I say more? Some people say it’s thick, while I do agree (it is not a petite one), you have to have room to carry all of that stuff! It makes me feel like I have super powers when I carry this thing around and I always get the “Wow, you look so put together” compliment when people see me with it. It really is my pride and joy!

Now to the fun part, how I accessorize!

Something I’ve loved doing since I was in early high school is watching YouTube videos on how people decorate their planners and such. I love little details and all things girly (if you couldn’t already tell) so I like watching how other people do things and getting inspiration from those social channels. One thing I’ve hated though? Feeling like my planner is ugly and always not doing PERFECT and then being mad with how it looks… hence why I buy a new planner every six months. Because I end up using white out and making it ugly. Well with all that being say, I FINALLY found a way to decorate my planner and love it. And it was really simple fix.

…I pencil everything in. I no longer use pen.

I’m not sure what makes me more mad— the fact that it was an easy fix or the fact that I bought too many planners? But really, this has made the world of a difference when it comes to accessorizing and I’ve really had to pace myself. I would get WAY too excited when stickers came in, or I got on a planning kick, and I would go over board. When the time came to accessorize for that week I was irritated and didn’t like what I did 5 weeks ago. Oh, and my plans had changed and I was whiting stuff out like it was my job. This sounds really silly and also very much a first world problem, but I actually couldn’t handle it.

The solution- I now pencil all of my plans in. I don’t do stickers until the time is right. #overdramatic But if you are like me, and your schedule is constantly changing like work shifts and plans, then you know the struggle. With my new life planner I now sit down on Sunday’s, and only decorate for the following week. I’ll use my favorite sticker books (shop below) and then write everything in pen for that week. At that point, oh well if something changes. It’s made the world of a difference and when it comes to motivation and loving how it looks, this method has worked great for me. Again, this sounds so silly but my planner is what keeps my busy life on track and it might as well be cute, right?!

I love talking about my love for planning and I hope you guys like reading about it! You can shop everything in this post through the pink highlighted links or the Shop My Post widgets. Please let me know if you have any questions, or comments! My DM’s and email are always open to chat. Have a great week!

Thank you to Erin Condren for sponsoring today’s post.

The day has finally come! Today I turn 21 years old. Some people wait their whole lives for this day... I waited for this day so I can now finally say I'm at least 21.  The past couple years all I've gotten is, "Wait, you are only 20?!" Or whatever age I am.  Now I can at least drink, even though, I don't drink at all. I have yet to find an alcoholic drink that doesn't make me gag.  Leave suggestions below for this newbie if you have any! Anyways, people are always SO shocked when I tell them how old I am, so now the day has come... I'm finally as old as I (almost) look. If you need me tonight, I'll be in bed by 9.  Tim is currently trying to bribe me to at least stay out until midnight and order ONE drink... and I'm like nah, whats on Netflix?!  You feel me? No?... Party of one over here.  Yesterday you guys voted that instead of a Q&A, you wanted to see what was on my birthday wish list. So let's jump in!

Louis Vuitton Clemence Wallet

Tory Burch Miller Sandal

T3 Hairdryer

MacBook/iMac

AirPods

Can you guess how many of these I got?...NONE! Haha ok not none, Tim did hit the jackpot and got me a pair of Tory Burch sandals.  I'm so stoked because they're what I wear all day everyday- you'll rarely ever see me with them not on.  Even in the Winter! The rest of the items are wish list items, hence the title of the post.  Some people use these for realistic lists, but I like to dream (since its my birthday!) about things that are far out of reach...but I still want! ;)

Cheers to 21 being one of the best years yet, and for getting ready for a whole new adventure...

Happy Father's Day | 2018

It was a Sunday afternoon, New Year's Eve to be specific.  We were so close to it being 2018 and I was spending the day relaxing, since the next day my entire family and I were planning on heading to the Rose Parade in LA. You see, my dad has a huge love for tennis.  Throughout my entire life Sunday's have been spent at the tennis courts.  Thats just how it went.  He came home on this particular Sunday while I was relaxing feeling a little...off.  He had a headache, which wasn't normal.  He had a bad day at tennis, which was also super not normal.  Us girls in the family (my sister and mom) ruled out some other symptoms he was having which were big no nos.  In the Reyes family, we like to play it safe and so we decided that him and my mom were going to take a trip to the ER just to make sure everything was ok.  Well thank goodness they made that trip, because little did we know... our lives were about to change forever.

IMG_4903.JPG
IMG_4906.JPG

It's been six months since my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Brain Cancer. Six months since he went into surgery.  Six months since we figured out he also has Lung Cancer. Six months since we all had to process that losing him was a huge possibility of becoming our reality.  If you've been following me for awhile, you know that in January I went completely MIA.  I did no posting for about a month, and this is why.  When a tragedy like this strikes, everything else gets put on hold. My blog was dead to me.  I barely went to work.  Tissues were my best friend.  The hospital was my new home. It was my new reality, all of our new realities. So the fact that I can sit here today and let you know that I'm going out to breakfast with my dad, to celebrate Father's Day...is a miracle.  Because the start to my families 2018, felt like the end of the world.

As I'm sure you know now after reading this, this Father's Day is very special.  It's one that I thought wasn't going to happen.  Heck, none of us thought was going to happen.  My dad plays a HUGE roll in who I am today, and for that reason and so many more is why I love him.  I know out of all the people in the world, I am very lucky to have a dad to celebrate this holiday with like I have my whole life.  This holiday can be tough for a lot of people, though.  Some don't have a father to celebrate with because they aren't apart of there lives, some don't celebrate because they don't know who there dad is.  And for some it is hard to celebrate, because their fathers have already passed on.  And this year, that reason resonates with me the most. Unfortunately there will come a time where both my mom and my dad, will go home to a better place.  With the series of events that have happened this year, I became more aware that the older I get the more of a reality that will become.

So before I share the letter to my dad, I ask you to remember these things.  Hug everyone you love a little tighter, because you never know what can happen.  Call that person you've been meaning to talk to for weeks.  Give someone a nice compliment.  Try not to judge anybody, because you have no idea what battle they are trying to fight.  I would read things like these before my life got flipped, and find them sweet but never really truly understand the meaning. Now that its me, now that its my family that it happened to, it makes sense. Its all true.  Life is short, so try and spread nothing but love.

To my Daddy-o...

I know you never thought you would live to see another Father's Day again, and neither did I.  But here we are. These past couple months I can't help but reminisce on all the memories we have together.  My favorite are the ones from when I was little.  One of my favorite things to do is pull out our family videos and watch them over, and over, and over again. They will never get old to me, because seeing you throughout the years love this family the way you have is something I extremely admire about you. You came home after long days of work, with open arms for your "big girl". You gave me the biggest smile and always were my jungle gym. You let me on your lap in the mornings to steal all of your cheerios. You swam with me, and also let me jump off your shoulders.  You did Dad's campout at school with me.  My list goes on and on with all the memories we've had together, so I'd say I'm a winner.  The real winner.  To have the privilege of growing up with a Dad like you-- someone who knows hard work, someone who knows how to love unconditionally, and someone who knows how to lead a family.  Because of you, Dad, I know what real love looks like. You were my first love and I'll always be your little girl.  From you I have inherited strength, wisdom, and of course my attitude. I love you, forever and always!
